I wasn't saying they would, just that rumors abound. When the line was modernized and upgraded in 1969 with new bridges and the Alcos, everything was upgraded.

There was talk of the Canadian government funding a branchline to Whitehorse from the B.C. Railroad and then an extension of the White Pass another 100 or so miles north.

The catch? Everything had to be standard gauge so there would be ease of interchange of rolling stock, etc. Of course, nothing ever came of it but it spun off a lot of rumors, etc.

It would have served the Canadian mining industry further north and given the B.C. a seaport that provided access to container traffic.

Mainly, it just served to provide speculation about what if, etc. This is all well documented in print somewhere, including maps of the proposed extensions by rail.
