Rumors have abounded for decades the White Pass would be standard gauged. Some of these rumors were fueled by the dimensions of the right-of-way, etc. Things were built in such a way that it would be possible to standard gauge the railroad.

It is all probably speculation and rumor and who knows why the White Pass built to the dimensions it did. Management had a reason and they never shared it in writing.
