The first time I changed a tire was when I was 13 or 14 (this was in about 1962 or 63); I'd seen tires changed before then. It was evening and my mother was at a swim club about a mile from home. At the end of the swim session Mom found that her car had a flat; and she called home. I think she said she'd be late and was going to call the AAA. I volunteered to ride my bike over and change the tire; so that is we did. (Dad was out because he sold life insurance and made personal sale calls in the evening.)
Since then, I've had occasion to jack-up and change a tire on just about every car I've owned.
By the way, I learned a number of useful skills from my mother -- not just how to do the laundry -- but also stuff like how to replacing electric light switches!
