Re: About to disappear (Silverton)

Well this seems to be the way that things happen. History is always trumped by advancement unless someone lays down in front of the bulldozers and is run over.
Now I am a firmly convicted republican but this disreguard of history is beginning to get me. I suppose that the developers have done an enviorlmental impact study and comcluded that there is no risk to the new tennents of these homes. Of course this is a dangerous tact to follow if the material from the slag dump has been hauled down and dumped along the right of way of the railroad, because they could get caught in the flash back. Knowing how nasty the river is flowing through Silverton and below I have a hard time thinking that the property does not contain high levels of lead, arsnic and a few other unmentionables as these are commonly elements associated with mineral mining and old fashioned smelting. Just a suggestion
