Re: oldest locomotives

The two should be considered the oldest steam locomotives in continuous service in the US.

There are a few locomotives that are operable (but not with a continuous service history) and older: 3' gauge EUREKA and GLENBROOK from 1875. On the standard gauge size of things there is Hecla & Torch Lake RR No. 3 at Dearborn Village, it dates from 1873 and is a Mason bogie -- this was once a 4'-1" gauge locomotive. Also Virginia & Truckee #22- INYO at Nevada State RR Museum at Carson City dates from 1875.
