Yes, those were the days of the 16 hours rule. My time book is full of them, except they were usually 15 hours and 59 minutes. I can't remember the details, but it was something like if you worked 16 hours you had to get something like ten hours rest, but if you worked "only" 15 hours 59 minutes they could call you back after 8 hours. Or some such. During the busy season it was not unusual to work regular 15 hour 59 minutes days.....long hours but the money was good, it helped finance a lot of trips to chase trains. I am guessing the 10:50 p.m. is based on 16 hours from their on-duty time. If I remember correctly the actual trip took maybe six hours or less.
