Re: open access? *LINK*

At the Strasburg Rail Road, we have an organized hour long shop tour for $10 that is available every day that the ticket office is open. Since it is during the lunch hour, it avoids exposing customers to noise, dust, etc, but it goes through the heart of the shops, and the guide gives a safety talk at its start, warning people to watch their step, etc. They also must sign a release before starting (I know, it’s not worth the paper it’s written on). The shop men are on a rotation for this duty, up to the highest paid machinist (sometimes even the President of the Rail Road), so the customers get answers straight from the horses mouth, and with no set script, each tour is somewhat different. Many days, there is only one person taking the tour, and we lose our butt, but some days, 20 people sign up to make up for that. It generates a lot of good will (no one has left disappointed yet), and from time to time may generate some contract work for us when the right person sees what we can do.
