Yes, the Standard Gauge has more options for a plan "B" when the iron horse needs attention. THat has its pros and cons.
But I think some of those locomotives helped for a generation of steam fans, m included. As a toddler, my dad took me to see 4501 hustle the Circus Train through southern WI back in the early 70s. And a book by JD Ingles with pictures by John Gruber- called 4501- was my first "train" book, bought for me by my mom, the reading teacher. I'm glad 4501 is alive and well!
