The Rio Grande bought the 6 Uintah water cars in 1939. They were numbered 0465-0470. These were all built by the Uintah as water cars. On the Grande they were originally painted black but painted gray later. Never used on rotaries some were assigned somewhat specific duties. the 0465 was assigned to dragline D-13 in 1956. the 0469 was assigned to the B&B gang in'56. 0470 was used to supply the Monero tank. the 0468 must have had a worn out frame and was later placed on flat car 06209.
The tender from the Uintah locomotive #30 also came to the Grande at the same time. It became W-499. It was used as a dual gauge idler and a water car. There are pics of it as a third tender on rotary OM. In 1962 it replaced the original tender on the OM. No records show the OM was used with this tender except on the CATS runs. Tons of Overland and Durango Press models out there with this big tender painted red. Even though it was never that way.
Some years ago the OM was painted red and with the darker caller you could really see the W-499 lettering and the big 30.
