Well that's interesting to know the Rotary is coming back to Chama in the fall. I figured it was there to stay for a Feb rotary charter heading west from Antonito. Guess that's what I get for assuming!!!
As I mentioned in a different thread regarding the possible charter and riding a rotary train, I got to do so in 1997. The last day they put a few rider coaches and got, and caboose behind the 487 which was pushing OY. We were plowing east from Los Pinos tank. Did a runby near the phone booth, and not long after that encountered the huge boulder. All this is covered in "Rocky Mountain Snowplow" video. We did a companion show called "First Train to Toltec" which covered the work train to ge rid of the rock (488 pulled the work train, and we rode the caboose), and a charter we did after the Rotary run. Closest I ever came to riding in the Rotary wheelhouse was riding in the cab of 487 during that runby. I don't think I would enjoy the low ceiling of the rotary, being 6-5!
