Greg,
The Orient branch shut down in January 1932. The track remined until 1942. I am writing a history of the branch (all ten K-36s ran there and several of the K-28s) but my book publisher thinks the market for a book would be too small. The Orient branch was the first branch where the K-36s could run and the first one to go.

Orient Branch Line To Be Abandoned
DENVER, Feb 13—Trustees for the D&RGW railroad were given permission today by U. S. District Judge UJ. Prather Symes to abandon eight miles of narrow gauge railroad known as the Orient Branch near Salida.
Attorneys pointed out that the line had not been used for years and mines were worked out in the region. The line runs from Villa Grove to Orient.
