Granted, they did have their unique quirks. Shays could bind up and derail if high power was used going into tight curves. That was probably the type's best-known shortcoming, mitigated via proper crew training. Climax locomotives (class B/C) were known for rough riding. Heislers tended to get very dirty underneath due to the engine motion flinging oil everywhere.
