I like the stack talk at that spot every time!!! Also want to give you a big thumbs up on the great pan. Thats the way I would have done, so I think you were 100% correct!!!
Regarding your video pacing in the flats, I have one recommendation that might help. If you can detach the mic, and place it away from the window, you can do away with much of the wind noise!
Who was driving for you?

PS. In years past when we had a mini-van with a sliding side door, I would lay down, and shoot out of the side, keeping the entire camera(and mic) inside the vehicle. Thus no wind noise.
