Have been researching D&RGW, RGS, and D&SL snow operations for many years with the goal of doing a book some day. My info is limited to the D&RGW (narrow and standard gauge) and the RGS. Both railroads operated rotary snow plows on upgrades and downgrades, most of the time they had no option. The D&RGW tried to use OM on the upgrade out of Chama and OY on the upgrade out of Antonito, but OM was an older machine and was not used after 1957. On Poncha Pass, Rotary ON was used upgrade to the pass and downgrade to Villa Grove. OO was mostly used upgrade on the Crested Butte, Anthracite and Floresta branches, but D&RGW men told me that often they would have to use it downgrade coming back to Gunnison from Crested Butte. RGS used its rotary upgrade and downgrade.
On the D&RGW standard gauge, Rotary 070 was used on the Park City, Provo Canyon (Heber), Tintic, Kenilworth and other Utah branches up and down grade. Rotary 071 was used on LaVeta Pass, Palmer Lake, Tennessee Pass, and Ibex branches. D&SL used their going up and coming down.
