Hello again -
The Special stopped to inspect the facilities at Osier – and for lunch – at mid-day on 11/24/68, which gave Ernie plenty of time to take the newly-paved Highway 17 from the overlook east of Los Pinos to Mogote and then up the back road beyond Sublette toward Osier to a long-shot overlook of the east portal of Toltec Tunnel #2 (aka 'Rock Tunnel'). After taking several telephoto shots – two of which are shown below – he backtracked a short way and then scrambled down the steep hillside to the east portal of Toltec Tunnel #1 (aka 'Mud Tunnel'):

Another inspection and leg-stretching stop was made at Sublette:

. . . which gave Ernie time to get ahead of the train again for some shots west of Big Horn, of which this one seemed to me to be the best:

I've been looking for a photo of a train crossing the little trestle at m.p. 287.50 for just over half a century – ever since I spotted it but couldn't get there in time when chasing the last REAL freight on 08/29/68 – so you can imagine how pleased I was when this gem began to appear on my monitor while I was scanning Ernie's negatives a few weeks ago:
