The train was moving slowly enough to allow Ernie to get ahead at Coxo Crossing, and then to hike partway around windy point:

The section house at Cumbres is barely visible at the far left as the train rounds Windy Point and approaches the trestle over the old road:

Ernie gave me permission to scan the following well-known photo as it appeared in the book he co-authored circa 2001,* but this hi-res scan of the original negative is MUCH sharper than the one he allowed us to use in the "Help Save #483" screen saver more than a dozen years ago:

The train paused for several minutes at the top of Cumbres Pass to allow the NPS officials plenty of time to inspect the many structures there:
