I deleted my own post about Railroad Retirement because upon rereading it it was full of typos and not well written (written late after a bottle of vino with dinner). Railroad Retirement, and expecially the interelation between RRR and Social Security, is complex. There is a lot of misinformation running around. I'm retired under RRR and still don't understand it fully. If anyone is really interested in the subject, let me know and I'll take another stab at it. But frankly I'm not an expert.
With regard to Jaybawb's comment about health insurance. First just like Kyle and GBart before us, RGRPC offers health insurance only to certain senior positions. Second, finding insurance even for those positions has been difficult but has been found and should be in effect soon if not already. Personally, I feel strongly that each and every employee should have access to some kind of basic health coverage through RGRPC, but unfortunately such lofty aspirations are in conflict with financial reality. At this point the only health coverage we can find costs in excess of $500 per month per employee.
