The D&S will start their regular runs between Durango & Silverton on 9/17. For that brief period between the fire & the washout (all of about 10 days) the D&S ran at least one DH per day. It probably wasn't done to amuse us local foamers but to reduce the work (and cinders) of each individual locomotive. Since then we have received significant rain & cooler days so the fire danger has been considerably reduced so perhaps the days of the DH have passed...but maybe not. We'll see.
It appears that we are having a very early fall with a lot of color changes already here in Durango. Sadly the aspens are a fickle lot and some years they only produced a dry brown leaves that promptly fall off. Again we'll see.
