Yes, but as they are hoppers meant for carrying coal and ganister rock, they are not the best for ballast work as they dump right on the track and the crews have to manually move the ballast away from the trucks so they can move forward. The drop bottom gons can dump on either side of the track. One of the D&S drop bottom gons was rebuilt with steel so it can carry large rocks or heavy material.
