This is my first post here.
I helped restore SP786 here in Austin many years ago and we used recycled/refurbished motor oil.
I think that the BTU content was pretty good and never heard of any problems. I got to fire several times before a car accident relegated me to motor car patrol proceeding the passenger train.
Fine in spring, HOT in the summer and VERY COLD in the winter, especially when there was sleet.
