Silverton Branch motive power

July 28, 2018 03:36PM
I am reading a magazine published by Kalmbach, titled "Steam's Lost Empire. There is a long photo spread by Tom Gildersleeve on the D&RGW narrow gauge in 1963. There is a picture of 492 pulling a work train between Durango and Silverton and the author states "this was the first time in memory that an engine heavier than a K-28 had run on the Silverton Branch".

Is that true? I thought in the 40's/50's there were K-36's being used on the branch.
