People have been inquiring " so are you going to tamp the track"? Or " Where is the ballast"?
After the rails are spiked, aligned and level, we add a minimal amount of ballast under the 4 points under the tie right under the rail. Lateral movement is sometimes inhibited by the utilization of heavy rebar steaks pounded in deep one the end of the tie.
We then tamp.
And then a sprinkling of cinders. We have numerous "cinder mines" or as in this particular location cinder are being utilized from last year's grading.
