Actually, William, it's not just "a lot" -

But "ALMOST ENTIRELY" due to folks stepping up and ensuring the D&RGW wouldn't meet the scrappers torch.  We owe special thanks to Alva Lyons for his many years of effort on behalf of the Silverton Branch, and to Terry Ross, 'Chili John' Pritchard and several others – including Ernie Robart – for saving what is now the C&TS, and then – along with many more volunteers – working tirelessly in 1970 to resurrect the badly deteriorated railroad.  Here's a list of most of those to whom we owe our thanks for their work on behalf of the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad; my apologies to anyone who has been inadvertently overlooked:

1960’s & 1970 MAJOR C&TS VOLUNTEERS:

Ken Green, Alamosa, CO
