As a long-ago (and very amateur) occasional user of b&w even after reasonably fast Kodachrome became available, I have always enjoyed how the former seems to allow the viewer to add his or her own interpretation to a scene, versus the "fixed reality" of a color photo.  IMHO, the only thing missing from your album is a portrait of my old friend Al Phillips at work, as I am sure he must have been helping with the charter since he was one of those most heavily involved in the restoration of 4501 at the TVRM.  (See [ngdiscussion.net] & [ngdiscussion.net].)
