I suspect the reason is to attempt to give the look of an old photo wether or not it is a phraudograph.
Because the #168 here at the C&TS is being rebuilt to its 1915 appearance I am curious as to the possibilities of someone doing a comupter "colorization" to make the pictures look like hand tinted black and whites.
