The NEWFY BULLETT!! They had to deal with some serious snow. The Reid Newfoundland Co had three 42" gauge rotaries.
The tender pictured is an oil burner but is not backwards. It just has a funny wing. A clear picture of the rear shows it isn't backwards.
#1 built by ALCO (COOK) Dec 1903 became CN 3650 and scrapped 1963. Pictures plainly show an ALCO builders plate
#2 built by ALCO but shipped as parts with no boiler. Finished in assembled by Reid Newfoundland 1909 became CN 3651 and scrapped 1955. Pictures clearly show an oval builders plate.
#3 built by Reid Newfoundland in 1921. Sources differ with some saying it was completely home built with another saying using parts purchased from ALCO like #2. Became CN 3652 and scrapped 1963. No builders plate on the #3
Any date on that picture, by chance? Do you have any other pics of their rotaries Jim? Or does any body. I have about a dozen but most are working in deep snow. A couple of clear pics of each on though. Here is another pic of the same plow.
