A lot of railfans hate diesels but I don't, I think they are neat pieces of machinery! If you ask probably 99 out of 100 of the railroaders that were around at the transition period they would all say how much better they were. Steam locomotives could maim and kill if one wasn't real careful, they could also work a man to death plus the 120+degree cab temperatures. One exception is the people that lost their jobs over it but railroads have to make money. Maybe one day when the C&TS is doing better financially they could get one of the White Pass 6 axle Alco's. What about one of those meter gauge export EMD's (any EMD is better than any Alco), could they be narrowed further to 36"? From what I hear the C&TS needs a good, strong work train engine, something that is modern and easy to live with.
go ahead and hate me
