When we leased the #15 from the "Loop" we mostly kept it at Antonito. It was leased so that we could have backup/rescue power at both ends of the RR at all times. We also used it to run some work trains. The thinking was that if there was a derailment or locomotive problem on a west bound train we could at least get the Antonito riders back to Antonito without stranding them. With the #15 at Antonito the #19 could be used as a shop switcher and work train engine at Chama thus relieving pressure on the steam engines and the shop crew. I am sure they would like to have a functional diesel at both ends now but finding a useable 36" engine of sufficient capacity is not easy.
