My first copy of "Cinders & Smoke", the one I got about 1970 or so(3rd printing), has two pictures on pg 80 labeled "Bridge and building yard of the D&RG Railroad(sic) at Canon City, Colorado in 1882. Bridge Timbers were prepared here for use on all parts of the system." Pictures are credited to Library, State Historical Society of Colorado.
Could this be what you're thinking of?
