Several people asked about the BN connection. There wasn't one. The original idea was all green with a black cab. It looked rather drab, so I added the tops of the hoods in black.
The green was actually inspired by a visit to some friends of mine who worked for the Sierra RR. I liked the new green he had put on the Sierra's BLW S-12's and thought it would look good on the 19.
The stripes on the frame were also supposed to be continued on the radiator shutters. I soon discovered how much work that would entail, so I simply painted them black.
The cab number is the same style and size as the steam locomotive numbers. The lettering on the hoods is also identical to the tenders (same stencil - hand lettered). Ditto for the herald. I seem to recall I used Dupont Centauri automotive enamel on it. This was before urethane stuff came along. The only stuff like that was Imron, and that was big $$$ and a lot of big work.
