According to CRA #12, it was built in 1899 with the intention that it would be used on the south Park lines[1] as the older plow couldn't cover both Boreas and Alpine in bad years. Delivered in January of 1900, it was olny used on the SP Div for a couple of days, turned out to be too heavy for the old iron rails still in the track.
Converted to std ga, saw very little use until converted back to 3' ga in 1935. Back to std ga in '43 and sent to Leadville in the 1950's to replace the 99200 after she broke her shaft. Given to CRRM in the 60's.
As to the Jull plow, #99210, after the Alpine trials in April of 1890 it was purchased and used on the UPD&G and then C&S until 1929. One problem it had, which may have contributed to its frequent derailments in the Trials, was that the auger mechanism was very heavy, overloading the front truck. It was later rebuilt with a 6-wheel truck in the front and seems to have been satisfactory afterwards.
