EMD did produce two orders of 3-foot gauge locomotives with traditional motor mounting.. These were for Colombia and built in 1963 (16 units) and 1964 (11 units). These were EMD export model GR-12. These were C-C locomotives with 12-cylinder 567 diesels producing 1350hp.
Colombia generally bought from ALCO and then GE. It rostered U12C, U8B, U13C and U20C.
Some of the GEs and a few EMDs ended up on Drummond Company's coal hauling road in Colombia. A number of later GE's were rebuilt with span bolster trucks (a la Brazil) in Mexico for use on this 3-foot gauge railroad.
