Re: More about the box car(s)

The Lake Tahoe railway & Transportation Co. had seven Hammond built box cars. Three cars (# 1 -3) were built new in 1901 by Hammond. Then there were four cars (# 4-7) built in 1904 for the Tonopah that were bought second hand about 1905. The Tonopah is report to have ordered 20 box cars from Hammond (California Car Works) that appear to have been numbered 1000-1038 (even numbers only).

Herman Darr believes that some of the Tonopah box cars were resold to the Hobart Estate lumber operation. It is believed that Hobart Estate also acquired flat cars from the Tonopah. The Eureka & Palisades is know to have bought gondolas from the Tonopah Mining Co.

LT No	SP No.	SP reno	date change	disposition
1	332	21	2-14-47 now owned by Bob Babcock
2	333	129	2-21-47 sold 1960
3	334	22	1-14-47 burned Keeler 7-12-47
4	335	130	1-7-47 sold 1960, body acquired 2010 by NCNGRR Museum
5	336	15	12-31-46	at Laws museum
6	337	16	12-14-46	sold 1960, body at Lone Pine
7	338	17	2-28-47 at Laws museum

Two ex-Pullman sleeper-buffet cars once assigned to the D&RG were acquired by the Tonopah and then resold 1912 to the Nevada-California-Oregon.

Hope this helps.
