Ken,
Thanks for the correction on the author's name. Your assessment of the book's content is right on the mark. Crude as it is by railroad book standards today, it was one of two books which got me hooked on narrow gauge (adicted?) many years ago. The other was Turner's "Slim Rails thru the Sand". How that evolved into an incurable passion for the Rio Grande and C&S ng's I have no clue.
