I don't know what is in the " Instructions or Kit " from the C&T for the school. But as a fireman for the 315,
Leather palm gloves. Walmart or Harbor Freight, Cheap gray leather. < $3.00 pair. These get really dirty in a hurry, and after using a bit you won't want to use for anything else, Disposable. especially after oiling around a couple of times (good fire starters).
Earplugs.. Get the ones with a little blue string between the ends. Foam or soft silicone personal preference, they don't get lost when you take them out and in and out and in.( and they hang around your neck).
Safety Glasses. . A Must, Which ever style you like personally best, My preference is the kind that fit right against your face, keeps the cinders out, if you ware glasses, then the kind that fit over the glasses, and they need to fit snug as you will be bent over and looking into the fire box and you don't want them falling off. Some of the 315 crew even ware tinted glasses to better see the fire in the box, and the cord between the ends.
RED bandanna... Tied around the neck... keeps the cinders out of your collar. 315 is prone to raining cinders on the platform, the K's not as much.
After firing the K's, stop and go look at the 315's deck and firing station. It's a bit different.
