July 17, 1951 was the date the wreck between 319 and "268" (345) was staged. The location was hence named "Scrap Iron Junction", which to my knowledge did not stick. The date is from a booklet with a copyright of 1953 by Knott's Berry Farm, printed in Ghost Town, California with the title "Ghost Town & Calico Railway". That same date is repeated in Larry Jensen's "The Movie Railroads" copyright 1981. The Jensen book also contains the story of how Robert Richardson obtained the dome rings from the 345 for the 346 - the dome rings were presented to Mr. Richardson in a midnight rendezvous behind the Durango roundhouse by the Durango shop foreman who knew that Richardson had purchased the 346.
