Here are a few more photos of OLC #100. From a letter written by Earl Emlaw who worked for SVRy and OLC in the 1930's and forward, OLC quit railroad logging in 1941. Based on photos #100 continued to be used as stated to switch the Bates mill out to the SVRy interchange track right up till the SVRy mainline was shut down in 1947. I think the color photo Brian posted was taken at the end of Dec. 1946 by Hank Griffiths. In interviews that Casey Carlson did with Elvin Endicott (now deceased) who had worked his way up to engineer on the OLC, #100 was used on the Middle Fork mainline to bring loads up to Bates as well as on the branches off of the mainline. He related an account of firing for an engineer he did not get along with shoving empties up one of the branches. The engineer put the bar in the corner, really opened up the throttle and Elvin though keeping up on steam could not keep up with water with his injector only on. The engineer refused to start his injector and they ended up dropping the fusible plug. The conductor knew what had gone on and stood up for Elvin who was about to loose his job. Instead the engineer was nearly fired.
