Since so many are sharing their Chama yard experience, here is one of mine.
A fellow Friends volunteer and I arrived the day prior to session "E".
We had no Friends badges, nothing to identify ourselves, I was not even wearing my signature maroon shirt!
We are walking around the yard, looking like every tourist
We hear a ding, ding from a stationary locomotive.
It was a hostler beckoning us to come over. He was in the cab watching steam pressure.
Not knowing us from Adam, he greets us, makes sure we knew that we are very welcome to explore the yard and gives us a quick safety talk.
That sort of "this is awesome, I want you to enjoy it" attitude does not happen in many places.
