3 years ago, myself and 2 mates made the pilgrimage from Oarstraya to Colorado to ride those narrow gauge rails. This was my second trip and I knew what was in store at Chama, I loved this forgotten place from my first visit, and raved about the charm of Chama to my travelling companions well before we arrived, I still wasn't disappointed, neither were my mates, or so I thought!
We went on to Durango and rode that other railroad, I wouldn't have bothered but neither of my companions had been there, I was a bit stunned to hear one of the mates comment that the other railroad was much nicer, Chama was evidently still an 'old' railroad yard whereas the Silverton was pristine and orderly, which he preferred, everybody to his own I suppose but he was out voted 2:1 on that one. As many have said, it is a working, living museum in a town that time forgot, I love it.
Wayne from Oz but rather be in Chama.
PS, I want to be Popeye's forever neighbour!
