Fall 1972 Slim Gauge News

July 21, 2003 06:18PM
Hi,
I was browsing through an old copy of SGN. I found a chart published there that was titled "GOING,....GOING,....G---!"
It listed where all the surviving D&RGW narrow gauge locomotives were in 1972.
In a slightly different format, I'll present it here.
Durango:
464, 473, 476, 478, 481, 497
C-18 315 (425)
Alamosa:
480, 491, 493, 498, 499
T-12 169
Chama:
482, 483, 484, 487, 488, 489, 492
Antonito:
463, 494, 495
Royal Gorge:
486
Salt Lake City, UT:
C-16 223
Gunnison:
268
Montrose:
278
Denver:
RGS 42 (420)
Golden:
C-18 318 (428)
C-19 346 (409)
RGS 20
Buena Park, CA:
C-19 340 (400)
C-19 RGS 41 (409)
Colorado Springs:
T-12 168
Boulder
RGS 74
I was surprised at the truck movement of locomotives - especially the mikes. Between 1972 and 2003:
464 - moved twice - From Durango - Buena Vista - Huckleberry
497 - moved once - From Durango to Chama
315 - moved once with Chamber of Commerce
480 - moved once from Alamosa to Durango
491 - moved once from Alamosa to Golden
493 - moved once from Alamosa to Durango
498 - moved once from Alamosa to Durango
499 - moved twice - From Alamosa to Durango to Royal Gorge
169 - not moved - not yet anyway <img class=" />
482 - moved once from Chama to Durango
483 - not moved
484 - not moved
487 - not moved
488 - not moved
489 - not moved
492 - not moved
463 - not moved
494 - not moved
495 - not moved
486 - moved once - from Royal Gorge to Durango
223 - ???? - may have been moved inside the city like 315
268 - ???? - may have been moved inside the city like 315
278 - moved once - From Montrose to Cimmaron
RGS 42 - has not moved
318 - has not moved
346 - sort of has moved - parts sent to Strassburg for repair
RGS 20 - has not moved
340 - has not moved
RGS 41 - has not moved
168 - has not moved
RGS 74 - has not moved
If I count correctly, since 1972, the big mikes have been moved by truck 11 times.
The lighter C classes have anly been moved twice (315 and 278). If you include 346, it is 2.5 times <img class=" />
Trivial observation. Hope you enjoyed.
