Re-opening the Tennessee Pass Line would require a large on-line traffic base and/or enough frequent trains to justify the cost of operation and maintenance. I have seen proposals on everything from tourist operations in a high-rail bus to frequent commuter operations between Salida and Minturn for employees of the Vail Ski area that live in the Valley. Even though the track may be in OK shape, the signal system would have to be completely rebuilt or discontinued altogether. If discontinued, train speeds would be limited and the trip would be long. Passenger would require PTC. In any case, there would have to be a big traffic base to justify....and it just isn't there.
To keep this about narrow gauge, any good photos of the NG over the pass?
