Many of you can attest, the railroad runs on rumors... and coffee. So take any speculation you hear from a railroader with a grain of salt. I think the TP route would be valuable for BNSF given it's favorable connections in Pueblo, so there may be some really interesting reasons why a sale hasn't happened. From a historical perspective, a transfer of the route from UP to BNSF would overturn the outcome of the "Royal Gorge War" all those years ago when the ATSF and the D&RG fought over the right-of-way through the Royal Gorge.
Do I recall correctly that it was Santa Fe that actually laid the original narrow-gauge tracks through the gorge?
