Just shy of 79 years after Colorado & Southern 71 left Como, taking the rails of the South Park Line with it, Como Colorado is once again home to a steam locomotive.
Klondike Mines No. 4 arrived in Como this afternoon and has been unloaded from its trailer and is now on its new home rails. Thanks to the Como-Jefferson Fire Department the boiler and tender are full of water and tomorrow the process of bringing the locomotive to life will begin.
Today was a busy day in Como, quite a few volunteers showed up to help build track in the roundhouse to house No. 4 as well as help construct and then deconstruct the temporary track needed to unload the locomotive. Work on the turntable is ongoing as well.
Klondike Mines No. 4 arrives in Como. Apex Transportation hauled the locomotive from Wasatch RR Contractors in Cheyenne Wyoming to Como.
Later in the evening , KM No. 4 rests o its new home rails in Como. Tomorrow, the locomotive will be coupled to its tender, the stack and other parts attached and the process of steaming it up begun.
Simply unbelievable and cool beyond words.
