Ken was always a big help when I was on research trips at the California State RR Museum or researching area railroads. I went with Ken on one trip to the abandoned grade of the Towle Brothers Lbr. Co., where we found some early Central Pacific "pear" rail marked "R.I.C. 64" near the Bear River, above Dutch Flat, CA. The rail was about 45 pound and Ken was able to slice it into small sections for friends. Similarly marked 50 pound sections were found along the Bear River, above Colfax, on what was a standard gauge spur to a gravel pit. Yes, the NCNG had a section (3.6 miles) of four rail track between 1913-1915 and used a 2-T Heisler and 2-T Climax on the mainline from Colfax and a short standard gauge spur down to the river.
