Thanks, Rich -
Those thick walls explain why last year's damage at The Palisades wasn't even worse – at least it's apparently still possible to hike across them to the west portal of Alpine Tunnel. There were two threads about The Palisades last year - see [
ngdiscussion.net] et seq and [
ngdiscussion.net] et seq. Do you have any information as to the current state of the road? Has enough rock been moved away on the uphill side to allow a 4WD or at least an ATV to get past the damaged area?

p.s. Added 06/21 The photo is of the rock wall on the proposed OHIO Pass extension that was never completed. One of the rock walls at The Palisades on the west side of ALPINE Pass - which was completed and was used by the D&SP&P for a few years - was damaged by a rockslide sometime last year. The construction of the rock walls to support the railroad was essentially the same, but the two locations are several miles apart.
