As an employee of the Durango and Silverton, I can fully assure you that our motto is "safety first" and that safety is our number one concern. Train service employees strictly adhere to our own operating rule book... which was recently updated this year... in every move that we make. We operate historic equipment that simply requires different operating practices than Class 1 railroads. We are a narrow gauge railroad, operating through the Colorado Rockies, hauling 190,000 passengers a year, all of which mean that safety MUST be at the forefront of what we do. From an employee's perspective, it is made very clear to us that everything we do must be done with safety in mind. Period.
I do not appreciate you claiming that safety rules were "ignored" when you also state that you have no knowledge of our rule book, operating practices and so on. To answer your question with regard to the D&S, you are completely off base.
Let me be clear, I do NOT speak on behalf of the Durango and Silverton, I am just an employee who works hard every day to get historic trains to Silverton safely.
