Kcsivils the Uintah bolted 6" C channel (facing out) to the center sills of the car, this was probably done when the car was shortened. To stiffen/reinforce the C channel they also stitch welded 5"X1" flat bar into the channel. All this steel runs from one end of the car to the other and it is this steel that we welded the box tubing to.
Hsuthe the 168 is 3rd in line. The biggest hurdle for 168 is that the grande removed half of the body bolster when they dismantled/scrapped they car. They also removed the truss rods.
Early as Mark pointed out everything you see hanging on the front of the car is new. The car only had the body bolsters and truss rods when it came to the museum.
