It looks like the URY had wide-swinging capabilities for the couplers on their equipment so that they could negotiate the extreme curvature - similar to what street cars and interurbans had. It looks like URY's arrangement is still under the baggage end of #50. I would imagine such a set up would have been difficult to impossible to make work on a long shank passenger coupler with the draft gear up under the body of the car, which is the usual arrangement. I imagine that is why the URY mounted the coupler under the platform and put the rails into the under frame to help support it. Not needing that kind of swing for the coupler at the CRRM, it makes great sense to go back to the traditional mounting for the passenger end coupler.
