I missed part of the opening day ceremony in Antonito and only took a couple of shots. (I forwarded them to Jason to post). There was the flag ceremony, national anthem, speech by the mayor of Antonito as well as speeches from John Bush, Dan Love, Bob Ross for the Friends as well as all of the local politicians. We had a John Denver tribute singer sing a few songs before the opening an Kim Casford was there as the community liaison between the railroad and the communities they serve. My photos don't really reflect the size of the crowd as everyone was standing everywhere, but there were a lot of people who not only rode the train, but came out for the opening day event as well.
Dan Love must have been reading the Friends forum of session A photos as after the grand opening, he and several others wanted a tour of the Lava pump house conducted by John Engs. It would be great to get commission level support on the Lava pump house project.
As an aside, several of us Friends members rode the train from Antonito to Osier and back on Sunday, and the railroad and especially Steve Flowers and his team at the Osier cafe were on their game as everything was GREAT!
