Nice read Earl.
I rode on June 20, 2008 with a friend. During a conversation with Steven Butler after the 18 was wyed,
he offered me a ride. I think that you may have been the fireman that day. We didn't know each other
well at that time, but that's what sticks in my mind.
I really enjoyed the ride. A lot different than on the GCR though. They regularly ran her at 40, but you
had a much longer sustained grade, while their's was 6 miles of 3% on what then was called the Apex Grade.
In any event, one of the more notable rides that I've had. 18 will always be a favorite of mine, I spent
many enjoyable shifts with her while working for the GCR in '99. Many folks referred to her as "old reliable".
The whistle that she had on her for her last 5 yrs in Williams should now be on 484.
Congrats on all that you have experienced, you've done well with your time.
